Toronto's Santa Claus Parade
November 19, 2007
My day started off at 9:30 am when I rolled out of bed not really eager to do much of anything on a cold Sunday morning. I then remembered that I was supposed to be at Hayley's and Enza's place by 10:30 am, just to make sure we head downtown and don't get stuck standing in the back of a huge crowd of people wondering what all the floats and people in costumes looked like.
So I sat down in the kitchen, flipped through the paper and made a phone call to Hayley. She didn't seem fazed that I wasn't even remotely ready to head down, in fact she was pretty supportive. She went on to tell me not to worry about hurrying, as Theresa won't be there until 11 so that would probably be a better time for us (Brad, Melissa and myself) to get there.
By 10:00 AM I am still sitting at the kitchen table reading the paper. This time I am eating some Lucky Charms and watching Henry tear the socks that just happen to be on my feet, apart - his teeth are getting quite sharp now so his bites now hurt. 10:20 AM (or shortly before) - I decided I should get a shower and shave, since I felt pretty gross. Then by 10:35 AM - Me and Melissa hop in my car and go and pick up Brad.
The drive down to Hayley's place went smooth, it was not until we actually go to Hayley's place that things got interesting.
I called Hayley when I was about a block away from her place, she told me that there was a parking spot right in front of the entrance to her place, but when I got there Melissa realized that there was a fire hydrant right beside my car and that I could not park in that spot unless I wanted a ticket.
Frig.
So I pulled out and did a few circles looking for an empty spot, until we realized that there was a spot on the other side of the road. I felt pretty dumb.

Hayley doing research on where the parade actually is.
We were in Hayley's place by 11:30 I think, so we made pretty good time. And after staying at Hayley's for a few minutes where we tried to figure out where the parade actually was going to be, we were off to the parade.

Brad, Melissa, Theresa and Hayley walking to the subway
The subway was somewhat packed but I kind of expected it to be much worse seeing that there was an Argo and Raptors game going on, plus a bunch of other events going on in Toronto. Good thing we didn't drive down, because traffic would have blown.
We got to the parade somewhat early, so we decided to get something to eat. I had a single beer which in reality should have been MANY beers, maybe then I would have been to drunk to feel how cold I was (I know thats a bad thing but I am just throwing the drinking in cold weather thing out there for shits and giggles). We left our place of food getting and arrived at our spot (somewhere between Queen and Dundas) where we stood and watched the parade go by.

The parade was filled with tons of clowns and other fun things like that.

Gwilly and his friends
There was even a float with Gwilly! Yeah that's right, our stupid mascot from Bradford made it to the big times... And as you can see he's not just a passenger - he's the one driving! Props to Gwilly not getting bitch. Btw... those Radishes beside him are not wearing seat belts, there's something you should be showing during a children's parade. Hey if the Radishes don't have to wear seat belts, why should we?

Santa!
It was a pretty fun yet freezing cold day. Next time we go we are going to make sure we do the following things:
- Wear warmer pants
- Wear my fur hat (applies to me only)
- Don't stand in the cold mud garden on University
- Bring lawn chairs
- Bring drinks (cold or warm who cares)
- Bring blankets
- Wear warmer shoes
If you missed the parade, were in it or are just curious. You can see all of the parade pictures that I took (300+) by going to the following link: http://www.flickr.com/gp/85632980@N00/49GRV9 or to my photos page: http://www.michaelkanyo.com/photos/
