Happy Easter and too bad so sad for the Leafs

April 8, 2007

Happy Easter everyone!

After eating an insane amount of food in the past few days I am now in a very slow mellow state - which is great because it gives me a chance to post something on here and break my month long streak of no posts. So here I go with my rant:

The Leafs were looking like they might get lucky and sneak into the playoffs after last nights win against Montreal but they didn't - oh well. During the game last night, Toronto didn't really play all that solid, they just played better than Montreal who were very inconsistent in their push to win the game and just sucked an awful lot more than the Leafs. Montreal had tons of chances with Raycroft playing one of his worst games of the season (he never did get to finish the game due to his lackluster play) but couldn't pull anything major together. Hopefully Raycroft will either be traded next year so he can progress with another team with less pressure on him or smarten up and play with a little more heart than what he showed last night, come the start of next season.

The final outcome after a year of struggles and injuries for the Leafs was exactly what was expected of them, which was to just get close to the playoffs. They never were intended on being an actual contender, so its not a complete disappointment that they didn't make the playoffs. What was a disappointment was when John Furguson had chances during the trade deadline to pick up some players to help the team get to the playoffs but instead decided to do absolutely nothing and keep the team as is. And funny enough, the team who did do all the trading and picking up of rental players made it to the playoffs just tonight (Islanders).

If anything major needs to be done to the Leafs over the summer, that would be to fire Furguson and get someone else who might attempt to make the team better instead of trading away all of the younger talent coming through the juniors.

Any how, there is always next year.

Hope you all had a great weekend and I guess its time to start cheering for the next best team other than the Leafs right now...Go Calgary!

Mike
