My rambling on hockey...
January 6, 2007
After watching the Toronto vs. Buffalo game for a total of maybe 10 minutes or after the second goal in 2 minutes from Buffalo I changed the channel then left the house due to complete crap play of the Leafs tonight. Surprisingly they came within one goal of tying it up but were not going to talk about that right now. Instead, were going to talk about Buffalo's newly designed logo and jerseys.
To start off I just want to say that the logo and overall look is better than their past logo which uses the colors: black, red and gray, and is way more modern looking than their original blue, gold and white logo. I prefer the original logo and jersey design over the last two 'modern' looks as I am a fan of old logo and jersey design. I have also noticed that the new Sabres logo reminds me a lot of the St. Louis Rams logo design, who both use the same arched animal (deferent species of course) and thick strokes as each other, just to name a few similarities. One could argue that the Ram logo is more detailed, the Sabres have a 'hair' sticking out the back and the colors are different but I think thats where the differences end, so we will end it at that.
As a hockey traditionalist, of course I hate change. I hate when old teams change their look. I hate when schedules get screwed up so much that original 6 teams don't play each other for 3 years at times. I hate when older teams need to get moved as there is no money in their current home. But as anything else, without change things would become stagnant and eventually come to a halt - which would suck a lot. So on that, I guess it is good that the Sabres have changed their logo, but when it comes to the schedule that the current NHL uses - something needs to change. Here is what I propose:
- Let every team in the league play each other at least once a year.
- Let the same division teams play each other twice a year.
- Same conference teams play each other 3 times a year.
This is just a rough though without any thought put into how many games would actually be played or how much traveling would be involved. But what this would bring to the table is a somewhat 'round robin' schedule style where all teams will cash in on the original 6 teams, who lets face it, do bring in a much higher cash flow than the newer teams.
Until my next rambling,
Mike

I think we should move all Canadian teams to the southern United States. Except the Leafs so they can still play the Bruins.
