Bad trip planing and a warm bus

November 29, 2006

Hey everyone,

If you read my journal on a regular basis your probably wondering to yourself "why has Mike suddenly stopped posting?", well in the past two weeks I have been kept busy with stuff at work (new site launch coming soon) and other extra-curricular activities. I have just had no time at my personal computer to write any of my stories or ideas down. Ill try to keep things coming on a regular basis from now on as some people have been voicing their concerns through emails - thanks by the way.

On to my feature entry,

Tonight I was out and about downtown and I was unable to catch any of the 4 total trains heading to Bradford from Union station tonight, so I took the bus home tonight. I usually never take the bus because it can sometimes take up to 2 hours to get from Union Station in Toronto to the bus station in Bradford - which is way too much time to spend in a sardine can of a bus.

Seeing as how I have not taking a bus in a while, I first had a problem just finding the platform for the buses. For trains at Union, the platform numbers are easily displayed for newbies like myself who are not public-transit lovers. So after 10 min of looking like a fool and walking around looking for any sign, I finally found it and hopped onto the bus.

I then made the mistake of walking to the back of the bus where it is absolutely BOILING when it should not be hot at all. I am wearing a light collard shirt with a blazer on top so I am not layered in clothing at all. To top it off, it is about 18 degrees outside - not the warmest of weather, but for a Canadian at the end of November it is scorching.

So the bus was on its way and the commute north was going great - I was ahead of time by about 15 minutes, this was turning out to be better than I thought. I called home to tell the parents I will be home in about 15 minutes as I was just pulling into Newmarket station and noticed a majority of the people on the bus exiting. I didn't think too much about this as I heard a lady sitting in front of me mention to one of her friends that she is going to Barrie which is north of Bradford - so I figured that I needed to stay on this bus to go even more north to Bradford.

The bus took off and stopped at the East Guillimbury stop where the driver made an announcement: "This is the last stop of the trip, everyone please exit the bus"... I was floored, I could not believe my ears. I am not even close to Bradford to even think about walking and a taxi would still cost about 25 dollars. So I got off the bus and made my way to the bus stop building thinking that it would be warm inside and food for me to buy as I was starving. The door was locked. So in desperation I called home again and my sister came and picked me up 15 minutes later.

The night could have been much worse but I still managed to get home at 10 pm. Next time I am going to ask when I need to get off the bus or maybe even plan my trip better.

Night everyone.

Mike
