Wedding gifts and over eager waiters
September 28, 2006
Good evening or good day depending on where you are from,
Today was one interesting day. The beginning of the day was filled with doing some work and spending time with friends and family, so it was nice beginning to a cloudy cold fall day. That was until me and my jolly good friend Hayley went out for dinner to a well know asian dining establishment that I will only refer to it as 'M', so not to give away the name of the company that I still enjoy eating at. Here is the story from the beginning of the little adventure Hayley and I experienced, hope you enjoy.
The day was going super when Hayley came over with the plan that we would go find some wedding gifts for her good friend who is getting married this coming weekend, bring back a parcel to Sportcheck, and then go out for a late lunch or dinner at 'M'. We were totally pumped. We hopped in the car and dashed off towards our first destination, which happened to be HomeSense. On arrival we looked for cooking stuff for the couple, which did not take as long as I thought it would. After finding all of the things we needed we decided to wander off into the rest of the store where we found the following pieces of armor or props:

Hayley wearing a Viking helmet.

Myself wearing body armor and the Viking helmet.
After terrorizing HomeSense we went to SportCheck where nothing really fun happened there because it was a quick in and out for Hayley and her unwanted parcel. Once she got in the car again we took off to our last and final destination of the day - 'M'! Wooo Hooo we were so excited.
Our drive north was super fun, we were awed by all of the foliage and other great crap that Hayley was unable to get a decent picture of due to the speed in which we were traveling.

A great picture complements of Hayley
Ok now for the good part, we arrived at 'M' and noticed that my grandparents vehicle just happened to be parked in the parking lot at 'M' - they must be eating here as well! So we called them up to see what they were doing while we waited to be seated.
Hostess: 'Sorry but we close at 3 pm you will have to come back at 430 once we reopen.'
Hayley and I were totally caught off guard, who the heck closes a restaurant at 3pm? What about all of the hungry people out there? Not wanting to make a scene I hung up the phone with my grandparents and agreed to come back at 430. We were starving though so we went to the Great Canadian Bagel and got a C-Chip bagel and a chocolate milk to hold me off, while Hayley got some fancy bagel with all of the fixings. That knocked off 30 minutes we need to burn an hour. So we headed over to the local mall, where I picked up some stuff and basically tried to forget how hungry I really was.
After having enough of the mall and seeing that it was 415 we decided to head over to 'M' for a feast of a lifetime. To make a story short, I got lost a little bit but eventually found the place where we were seated after being greeted by tons and tons of people waiting at the door for us - which was kind of creepy.
We wasted no time and ran through the buffet to get our food - it was great. We sat down and ate like a king and queen- then the craziness started. In getting our two drinks and a water each we though we were set, everyone was being incredibly nice to us. Once I took a sip of my water or iced tea one of the waiters was on it in no time refilling it. It got to the point where I would take a sip, and the guy was waiting over my shoulder to refill it. We figured they were doing this so you would end up drinking more and eating less, which would obviously cost them less. But it did not end with the drinks, everyone was in on the act. Waitresses were taking our unfinished plates of food while we were still going at the plate and everyone was asking us every three seconds how things were going. Hayley and I could not for the life of us have a decent conversation.
We finished eating, paid, and got the heck out of there as quick as we could before we were bombarded anymore.
Now don't get me wrong, I love good service like the other guy but when being bugged every three seconds by over eager workers drives me crazy. There is a point where bugging the customer is considered a nuisance and I believe they reached it today.
I am still happy but it was a bad ending to an overall great day. What would you people have done if you were in either Hayley or my shoes? Would you flip out or just tell the servers to just leave some space? Or be like us and not say anything at all?
Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
Cheers everyone,
Mike

LOVE the armor pictures, those made me laugh outloud, thanks Mike..and MAN, you guys know that if I had been there, I definetly would've said "could you please leave us alone for 5 minutes?!" I hope you didn't leave them a tip. Too much service isn't good. When I was a waitress for all but 3 months, I could tell ppl would get annoyed when you kept on checking up on them when they were trying to talk to their spouses/friends. Anywho...sounds like a great time. Hopefully we can have an adventure this weekend :) Love, Enz
